The Great Chair Revival

Before
I was doing my daily Craigslist check when I can across this chair. I am ALL about the bones of things. If it has good bones and the price is right (no matter how ugly) It's mine! It just needs a little TLC that's all. I found this chair and love the style. It kind of has that bamboo feel and I have really been on a bamboo kick lately! For those of you who do not know, it is REALLLLY easy to give an old chair new life.

Clean the cobwebs and spiders off...seriously.

Unscrew the seat cushion from the chair frame. There are usually 4 places on the bottom.

Use a staple remover OR do as I do and use a flat head screwdriver to remove them :)

If the foam under the fabric is still in good condition, re-use it! If not, Jo-Ann's it!

To reupholster the seat, all you really need is cute fabric and a staple gun. I just played with the corners to figure out what kind of tuck looked good and then did the same to the remaining 3 corners. Staple Staple Staple!

NOW the body of the chair.

In most cases I would say sand your furniture before you start the painting process BUT on chairs or pieces that have lots of detail, no need...just make sure the chair is clean and use a spray paint primer. Primer is KEY because it gives the paint something to adhere to. In this case I chose a white primer. After the entire chair is primed, use a gloss spray paint. This project took two bottles of Fire Orange gloss Rustoleum spray paint. The third and final step to securing the paint job is the gloss finish! It comes in a spray paint bottle too. This ensures no chipping, peeling, or cracking of the paint. The high gloss finish gives this chair a high end feel. Enjoy :)
